Here are 12 tips from dietitians for maintaining and promoting vision health:



1. Eat a Colorful Diet: Include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, particularly leafy greens, carrots, sweet potatoes, and berries, which are rich in antioxidants and vitamins beneficial for eye health.

2. Incorporate Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Consume foods high in omega-3s, such as fatty fish (salmon, mackerel), flaxseeds, and walnuts, to support retinal health.

3. Ensure Adequate Vitamin A: Include sources of vitamin A, like carrots, sweet potatoes, and liver, to help maintain good vision and prevent night blindness.

4. Focus on Vitamin C and E: Incorporate citrus fruits, nuts, seeds, and whole grains to provide these antioxidants, which may help protect against cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.

5. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to maintain good eye moisture and overall health.

6. Limit Processed Foods: Reduce intake of processed and sugary foods, which can contribute to inflammation and poor eye health.

7. Consider Lutein and Zeaxanthin: Include foods like spinach, kale, and eggs, which contain these carotenoids that have been shown to support eye health and protect against damage from blue light.

10. Protect Your Eyes from UV Rays: Wear sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays when outdoors to protect your eyes from sun damage.

11. Regular Eye Exams: Schedule regular eye check-ups to monitor vision health, catch any issues early, and update prescriptions as needed.

12. Avoid Smoking: If you smoke, seek help to quit, as smoking is linked to an increased risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
